The following is a message posted by a HongKong teen at a message board. I found it quite meaningful and translated and summarized it.
Hong Kong Treasures (translated)The passing KMB bus created a gaint wave that splashed against the glass window of the SevenEleven store. Rain bombarded the window like bullets. As the time passed, I stared out at the rain and enjoyed the instant SiewMai from the microwave.
The digital bell tone signaled the arrival of a customer and surprisingly, she was my not very long lost cousin,Mandy.
"Eh Mandy ar!"
"Wah...what a small world this is!"
Aparently Mandy has just returned from a charity activity from"Nanyang" The unknown land at the South. As we chatted and ate SiewMai, she shared her experiences of Nanyang life. Som how, life in Nanyang was not as great as many HongKongers thought. Although Nanyang did enjoy more sunshine and fair weather than HongKong, they however lacked many things we take for granted.
In HongKong, many people complain that they lack "freedom of speech" and "quality" life. Yet, they would never think about the many other people around the world who are unable to enjoy a single bit of "freedom" Just like what a Nanyang citizen Mandy interviewed," Government increase our tax ofcourse got reason de..even though they never expalin we must understand de..."
The experiences of Mandy really got me thinking.
This is really miles away from what HongKong people regard as basic human rights. Yet these people are able to put up with it. Imagine what would happen if a HongKonger were to live in that country. He/She would probably say," Wat! How can they strip us of all our rights?!? PROTEST!!"
Yup, that's what HongKong People always say nowadys. They complain. They complain about any slight increase in taxes, bus fares, fodd prices,e.t.c.. For instance, many HongKongers are complaining about the introduction of GST . Yet, they do not know that many countries from all over the world have this form of tax and some countries, like the one Mandy visited increases their GST every year. Imagine what a typical HongKonger would react in such a situation? Scream? Shout? Protest? Riot??
As the both of us mucnched the last bits of SiewMai, questions flowed into our brains," Is this really the kind of people we are? Are we really taking all we have for granted? Are we complaining too much without thinking twice?"
"Yup, that's life. We complain, we moan and we don't know why we even do it in the first place.."Mandy suddenly said.
She was right.
Last words:
To ALL HongKongers. Please think twice before you complain. Think about how much you enjoy and how much you have taken. Don't take everything you have for granted, even if it is a humble SiewMai or an air conditioned KMB bus or the rights to have freedom of speech. Treasure what you have presently and only ask for more when it is practical or reasonable. Enjoy what HongKong has to offer...cheers! XP

Today is Angelia & Hanif's birthday .Happy Birthday!! Hanif's birthday presents were the most interesting. Espeically this erm...disgustin? doll Matt gave him. It was a doll of this woman wearing only her erm...underwear? And the underwears can be easily taken off.It was disposable. So as you can expect, what would happen when us guys come across such "items". Yes! We did somthing rather obscene with it. Someone, I think it was Issac took of the lower piece and showed it to everyone, which sent a pandemonium throughout the class. Then ZhiPeng went to staple that "piece" of clothing on the class noticeboard. Then he tore it off again afraid mdm Ong will scold when she come to class. Then came the best part.
Someone asked ZhiPeng to wear it. And he said" so small la.." But somehow, Henry fit into it!! He wore it outside his pants ofcourse. Then we walked gaily out onto the corridor and showed the world how "hot" he was. All of us were like paralized with laughter!! IT was like an epidemic.
Then Issac put the underwear on the speaker abouve the whiteboard just before Mdm Ong came to class. At first many of us did'nt notice it, then PZ started giggling then Shuhuan. Then the whole class erupted into laughter again....and Mdm Ong gave us this wierd look. She did'nt know what struck us until she noticed it, but she did'nt seem to care. Haiz...why end such a good story like that?
